SUMMARY:Fort St. John Wetland Ecosystem Services Protocol-BC (WESP-BC) Training
DESCRIPTION:Join us for field-based training in using the Wetland Ecosystem Services Protocol for BC (WESP-BC) to assess the important functions and values of wetlands! Gain a better understanding of how wetlands function ecologically\, and how those functions matter for people\, ecosystems\, and infrastructure within their specific landscape context. WESP-BC is a standardized rapid function assessment method for non-tidal wetlands in BC. Outcomes of WESP-BC will support alignment with the Government of B.C.’s management goals for wetlands. \n\n\n\nWESP-BC is appropriate for the wetland generalist with the skills\, knowledge\, and expertise necessary to complete a rapid wetland function assessment. This course is suitable for consultants\, planners\, environmental/conservation groups\, government representatives\, First Nations\, and engaged community members. Prior knowledge in wetland classification and delineation is required. This TWO-DAY course will introduce participants to the Wetland Ecosystem Services Protocol for BC (WESP-BC)\, a rapid assessment tool used to evaluate wetland condition\, function\, and benefits. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on fieldwork\, participants will gain hands-on experience applying WESP methods\, including site planning\, mapping\, and data collection across wetlands of increasing complexity. By the end of the course\, participants will be able to confidently complete WESP-BC assessments and interpret results to support wetland management and decision making.  An optional virtual session will be hosted after the workshop covering post-field desktop assessment and data analysis.  \n\n\n\nWhen: September 9\, 2026 – September 10\, 2026 (days will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM)*estimate an additional 4-6 hours after the training for completion of an assignment. The assignment is optional\, but required to earn a certificate. \n\n\n\nCost: BCWF Member: FREE/Non-member: $50Sign up for a BCWF Membership here!  \n\n\n\nWhere: Classroom sessions & field training will occur near Fort St John. Final venue details\, directions\, and logistical information will be shared with registered participants once confirmed. \n\n\n\nFor more information\, you may contact:  \n\n\n\nWetlands Education Program Team (Erika & Neil) 604-882-9988 ext. 304WEP@bcwf.bc.ca \n\n\n\n»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»  \n\n\n\nCancellation PolicyFor any cancellations\, please email WEP@bcwf.bc.ca \n\n\n\n You are welcome to send someone else in your place; just let our team know at wep@bcwf.bc.ca.  \n\n\n\nThis workshop was undertaken with the financial support of Wildlife Habitat Canada\, the Royal Bank of Canada\, Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program\, and the Government of BC.  \n\n\n\n\nClick Here to Register

SUMMARY:Wetland Institute Speaker Series – Exploring the Co-existence of Wetlands and Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Join us in a celebration of wetlands on World Wetlands Day! See how the BCWF’s Watershed Team has been working for wetlands and watersheds and explore opportunities for wetland restoration in agricultural landscapes. BCWF’s restoration practitioner\, Becky Dodge\, and Glen Valley Organic Farm’s Chris Bodnar will discuss the importance of wetlands in agricultural spaces\, what wetland restoration can look like for farmers—highlighting a current project at Glen Valley Organic Farm in Abbotsford\, B.C.—and the importance of building trusted partnerships. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom Link: Sign-up here

SUMMARY:Wetland Institute Speaker Series – Ending the Great Water Giveaway: Modernizing Industrial Water Rates in B.C.
DESCRIPTION:B.C.’s water and watersheds are being pushed to the brink\, putting the health\, security\, and economic prosperity of communities across the province at risk. This session explores why watershed security must be a critical priority in BC right now and\, how ending the Great Water Giveaway by modernizing industrial water rates could provide stable\, long-term funding for healthier watersheds\, resilient communities\, and local jobs. Drawing on new research from the Watershed Security Coalition\, we will examine how aligning BC’s industrial water rates with other provinces could strengthen water management\, reduce disaster costs\, and protect the freshwater systems that underpin the province’s future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom Link: Sign-up here
