Kamloops Process-Based Restoration Workshop

The B.C. Wildlife Federation and Tk̓emlúps Te Secwépemc are bringing a free watershed restoration workshop to the Greater Kamloops area. Join us for this 2-day workshop on Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration (LTPBR)! Learn how hand-built instream structures can be used to restore floodplains by increasing habitat complexity, addressing stream erosion, improving floodplain connectivity and groundwater storage, improving habitat for fish and wildlife, and increasing the resiliency of the landscape to drought and wildfire.

- Sunday August 16 – 9 AM to 5:00 PM
Where: North of Kamloops, southwest of Bonaparte Provincial Park – Exact location will be sent before workshop. Please note: travel down a Forest Service Road will be required.
Cost: FREE ($100+ value)
This workshop is a mix of hands-on fieldwork and in-class presentations that provide participants with the skills and knowledge needed to implement LTPBR practices. Participants will gain hands-on experience in building Beaver Dam Analogues (BDAs) and Post-Assisted Log Structures (PALS) at Beaver Creek. Topics that will be covered include:
- The basics of Low-Tech Process Based Restoration (LTPBR)
- How to identify suitable sites for LTPBR
- Constructions of BDAs and PALS
- Post-restoration monitoring & maintenance
- Permitting & funding
Due to the hands-on nature of this workshop, participants must be comfortable in and around water, walking on steep, vegetated, uneven and waterlogged ground, lifting heavy objects, and operating hand tools (such as loppers).
Waders or wading boots will be required for participation in this workshop. Please email us and let us know if you do not have any, we have various sizes of spare waders.
